USA Map Skills

My elementary kiddo is working on memorizing some geography of the United States as she studies modern U.S. history. Here are some of the activities we are using. They are brief and easy to include with her history lessons.

  1. 50 States Song – This has been our favorite song to learn the 50 states. The tune is easy to remember and the states are in geographical order.
  2. Free Name the States Quiz – This is a free, printable quiz to test knowledge of the location of each state. We used it with the song above.
  3. Blank Map Outlines: United States and World – The title says it all.  This book is filled with blank map outlines.  I picked it up at a used book sale.
  4. Learning Wrap-ups States and Capitals – These are a fun way to practice learning the states and capitals.  Students wrap strings to match states to their capitals. It is a tactile way to practice memorization facts. The answer key is on the back so kiddos can self correct.
  5. Mini Flashcards – A free printable set of basic states and capitals flashcards.

6. State Dot-to-Dots – Free, printable dot-to-dots for each state.
